Introducing Braiins Deck Release 26.09

This upgrade takes longer than usual during the "Updating..." phase. It is expected to stay there for several minutes. Please allow it to finish and keep your Deck powered on and connected to the internet.

The Deck's software has been completely rebuilt and is now open source on GitHub. Widgets and applications can receive updates independently of a full system upgrade. Your supported widgets, scenes, and settings carry over automatically, with the upgrade details explained below.

You can build your own widgets, run them on your computer to check how they look and work, and then deploy them to your Deck. This currently requires technical skills. We plan to provide more support to help nontechnical users build widgets, too. A way to distribute your widgets to other users will come in a future update.

Features and Improvements

• Rebuilt widgets. The familiar clocks, financial tickers, weather, Braiins Pool, images, and other widgets have been rewritten for the new system. Follow the ISS on a 3D globe and view Formula 1 session timing.
• The settings tray has moved to the top. Open it by swiping down from the top edge instead of swiping up from the bottom. Adjust brightness, volume, and night mode, restart the Deck, or reconfigure Wi-Fi. The tray also shows the device address and a QR code to open its web interface. Restart and Wi-Fi reconfiguration use a hold-to-confirm gesture.
• Updated alarm sounds. The alarm sounds have changed in this release.
• Scene cycling animations. Choose Slide, Fade, or no animation. Empty combined scenes are skipped during automatic cycling.
• Package updates, separate from firmware upgrades. Applications and widgets can now be updated as individual packages without upgrading the Deck's firmware. The update screen handles both kinds of update and shows what will change, the download size, progress, and whether a restart is needed. Automatic updates check every two hours.

Upgrading

• Keep the Deck connected. This upgrade downloads and initializes the new application storage. The Deck needs internet access during the upgrade; keep it powered on until the process finishes.
• Your configuration carries over. Device settings, alarms, scene layouts, supported widget settings, and saved Braiins Pool accounts migrate automatically. Known Braiins Forge remote widgets are replaced with their local equivalents. Settings without a matching option use the new widget's defaults. Custom remote-widget URLs without a supported replacement are removed.

Known Limitations

• Remote widgets are no longer supported. Widgets provided by custom remote-widget servers will no longer work. If you use a custom server, we encourage you to migrate your widgets to the new format and run them locally on your Deck.
• BTC Ticker is now replaced by Ticker Single, which temporarily offers periods of up to one month. We are working on an update to bring back longer periods and make them available to all tickers, not just BTC-USD.
• The boot splash animation is not available in this release. It will return in a future release.

Bug Fixes and Reliability

• Ticker percentage changes match your selected period. The replacement for BTC Ticker now shows the percentage change for the period you choose, instead of always showing the 24-hour change.
• Clearer ticker charts. Candlesticks no longer overlap price labels, and dates are more evenly spaced along the horizontal axis.
• More precise ticker prices. Very small prices now retain meaningful decimal places instead of being rounded to zero.
• Safer restarts from the settings tray. The tray prevents restarts while firmware is downloading or being installed.
• Fewer Wi-Fi disconnections. Wi-Fi improvements should reduce unexpected disconnections. If you still have Wi-Fi issues, please send us a support archive so we can investigate. You can reconfigure Wi-Fi from the settings tray to reconnect, then download the support archive from the web interface under System Settings > General and send it to support.
• Stable Wi-Fi MAC address. The Deck now keeps the same MAC address, helping your router recognize it after reconnecting and avoid the unexpected IP address changes some customers experienced.
• Cloning a scene no longer leaves duplicate entries in the scene list.
• The orange upgrade LED animation no longer keeps running after the success or error notification.
• Fixed a path-traversal vulnerability in the Deck web server.
